Peter Magnus! - a strong name! Peter was born February 1, 1841, in Haurida on the Fogelkärr Östergård Farm and was christened on February 4 of the same year. In 1842 he moved with his parents to Gränna. That’s all I know about his life before he got married. It seems that he lived all of his life in and around the Jonkopping area of Sweden.

Image2.jpg On January 10, 1864, he married Johanna Pettersdotter (who was 6 years older than Peter) in the Hakarp Church in Huskvarna - the same church where Grandma Lotten was frightened as a child by the pictures on the ceiling. (Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of Johanna; Dagmar provided me with the picture of Peter.) According to Eileen Premo-Moberg (another of his Great Granddaughters) Peter Magnus was said to have been caretaker of a large estate and Johanna was the daughter of the estate owner. This seems reasonable as Peter is listed as a farmer in all of his childrens’ birth listings.

I am assuming that they had to get married because their first child, Hanna Augusta, was born in Hakarp on February 3, 1864 - a month after the wedding. I wonder why they waited eight months after Hanna Augusta was conceived before they got married. It surprises me that they were allowed to get married in the church. I also wonder why Johanna is listed as “Oskarsdotter” in the birth records for Hanna Augusta. In all the other birth listings she is listed as “Petersdotter” which seems correct as her father’s name was Peter. Unless, of course, it was a different Johanna altogether. As per usual, these searches sometimes turn up more questions than answers.

Shortly after Hanna Augusta was born the family moved to Rogberga to a farm called Åkarps Mellangård (Åkarps Middlefarm) where Gustav Emil, Karl Lambert, and Grandma (Anna Charlotta) were born.
